Longside Parish Church of Scotland

Scottish Charity No SC008873

Royal British Legion

Walter Simpson, aged 82 served in the Army Medical Corps, then 23rd Parachue Regiment during his National Service from 1959.

During the Covid-19 lockdown, Walter’s wife, Ursula suggested that he should walk round the house several times a day for exercise. His two granddaughters said they would sponsor him and close family and friends joined in. Walter wanted the money to go to The British Legion Poppy Appeal. The number of laps each day was noted starting on April 14th and ending on May 21st. He completed 108 laps and was able to donate £1000.

Longside British Legion was a regular contributor to the Church’s Focus magazine. Focus magazine is no longer being issued in its previous format. Members of the Legion felt it would be fitting to recognise Walter’s achievement through this web page. Congratulations Walter on raising such a sum for this worthy cause.
