1st Longside Girls Brigade

The company meets on Monday evenings from September to the end of April, taking breaks during school holidays in October, December and at Easter. The meeting place is Longside Parish Church Hall. Currently we will meet from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. for all girls. All girls from Primary 1 to Secondary 6 are welcome. The girls are split into sections of Explorers – P1 to P3, Juniors P4 to P7, Brigaders S1 to S6, with all sections meeting together at the beginning and end of the evenings. Currently sections will not mix due to COVID-19 regulations. All girls work towards gaining a badge by completing work covering Spiritual, Educational, Physical and Service subjects. Games and fun time activities are also covered. Brigader girls, as well as working towards gaining a Brigader Brooch, may work towards Queens Award and can also participate in Girls’ Brigade Leadership training.

Girls’ Brigade Motto is ‘Seek, Serve and Follow Christ’. The organisation is an International interdenominational Christian Organisation. 1st Longside company is part of Buchan Division, with Scottish Head Quarters being in Glasgow. Mrs Irene Birkett, Captain

Recently our Captain, Mrs Irene Birkett was presented with a certificate for 40 years service to 1st Longside Girls Brigade. Appointed Captain in 1995, she also served as Deputy Commissioner, then Commissioner of Buchan Division. Irene has served on a variety of National Committees and is currently Vice President of Buchan Division.
