Street Pastors

Street Pastors is a group of people from different churches who are trying to respond to splogo-150x105problems in towns and cities by engaging with folk in their own communities.  It was founded in 2003 in Brixton, South London by Rev. Les Isaacs.  He had seen it working in Jamaica where crime levels were very high.  There, a few dedicated Christians went into areas where even the Police would not go and it soon became apparent that the “gentler” approach was much more successful.  Rev. Isaacs was so impressed that he persuaded approx.15-20 people to become Street Pastors.  There are now over 12,000 Street Pastors working in most towns and cities throughout the UK – not a bad achievement in just over 10 years!

In Peterhead, Street Pastors are active going out in groups of three on Saturday nights from 9.30 pm -3.30 am.  Practical help is provided in various ways including replacing high-heeled footwear with flip-flops, giving bottles of water to anyone in serious need of sobering up.

For many reasons we feel this is a very worthwhile project and anybody interested in joining please contact us.
